Queen Anne: A Photographic Journey, by Chris Frame and Rachelle Cross
This glossy title celebrates the launch in May 2024 of the Queen Anne, Cunard's second largest ship, and the eighth 'Queen' in its fleet of luxury passenger vessels.
Named after an 18th-century female royal, the vessel also has a woman as its first master: Nautilus member Captain Inger Thorhauge, who provides an interesting perspective near the end of the book.
Capt Thorhauge had already made history by becoming Cunard's first female captain in 2010, when she took command of the Queen Victoria. For the construction of the Queen Anne, she was given the rare opportunity for a captain to oversee the construction of the Italian-built Pinnacle-class cruiseship.
The master comments that Cunard's founding captains from 1840 would be 'speechless' at the spacious and well-appointed modern bridge, with its state-of-the-art technology for aiding navigation.
As you would expect from this seventh instalment of a picture-led series by authors Chris Frame and Rachelle Cross, Queen Anne: A Photographic Journey has excellent images. It will particularly appeal to those working in the cruise industry or planning a voyage as a passenger – providing a brief history of Cunard's liners, useful key facts about the Queen Anne, a glossary of nautical terms, and specialist 'did you know' fact boxes scattered engagingly throughout.
