A new deal for maritime professionals: key reforms for a Labour government

A new deal for maritime outlines key reforms the Union wants any incoming Labour government to address to protect seafarers, grow employment opportunities and ensure worldclass maritime training. These cover maritime training, and support for seafaring jobs in strategically important sectors like ferries and offshore renewable energy. The deal includes a request for a commitment to increasing SMarT funding to 100% of the cost of training a cadet; instigating a training allowance; reforming the tonnage tax; delivering a national training provider; growing the UK flag in strategically important sectors like ferries and offshore renewables, and within the domestic maritime industry in general; and a review of ship registration practices.
