WISTA UK celebrates outstanding Merchant Navy women

9 August 2022

WISTA UK celebrated outstanding Merchant Navy women at its summer party held on the terrace at International Maritime Organisation (IMO) headquarters in London.

Captain Jessica Tyson, Capt Fran Collins, Capt Belinda Bennett and Helene Peter-Davies were among the women to be recognised at the event.

IMO secretary general Kitack Lim presented the recipients of the UK Merchant Navy Medal for Meritorious Service with a certificate and spoke of their 'outstanding achievements' in a short speech.

WISTA UK president Monica Kholi hosted the proceedings on a glorious sunny evening at which close to 100 people attended.

Ms Peter-Davies said on social media after the event: 'I am honoured to be part of this inspiring cohort of female mariners who have been recognised for their professional work and dedication to the Merchant Navy since the inception of the Merchant Navy Medal as a state award in 2015.

'The celebration of those achievements at the IMO with friends, family and colleagues from across the industry was very special; a moment I will cherish.'

Also in attendance were MNM recipients Fazilette Khan, Susan Thomson and Claire Womersley. Captain Rachel Dunn, Captain Susan Cloggie Holden and Joanne Rawley received their certificates by post.
