New addition to Hull historic trail celebrates maritime education
28 April 2025
On 27 March 2025 at 12 noon, the Old Boys of the Hull Trinity House School Association and the Hull Trinity House Brethren held a ceremony to celebrate the work of Hull Trinity House School over more than two centuries.
Commencing with the ringing of eight bells and a blessing by the Trinity House chaplain Reverend Tony Cotson, the event saw a figurine unveiled by Colonel Bob Seddon, who was educated at the school from 1978-1983.
The figurine has been placed on the northwest parapet of the school chapel. It was manufactured by Campbell Engineering of Hull and is made from stainless steel. The silhouette is that of a Trinity House cadet holding a sextant in the pose of 'shooting the mid-day sun', representing the ritual of navigation performed at noon on every ship at sea in pre-GPS days.
Now known as Hull Trinity House Academy, the secondary school is still going strong at a new nearby location, and continues its great tradition of educating fine young men and women with a maritime ethos.
It is hoped that the figurine will become a well-known sight on the Historic Maritime Trail of Hull, being a permanent reminder to the important part the school has played in the development of the city of Kingston-upon-Hull over the years.

Why we still commemorate the Titanic disaster
