Nautilus Welfare Fund caseworker Iain Lindsay has been recognised with a prestigious Merchant Navy Welfare Board (MNWB) Award for Services to Seafarers' Welfare.
Mr Lindsay, who supports seafarers in Glasgow, was named Team Member of the Year alongside another frontline maritime welfare worker. He was praised for his 'compassionate, hands-on support' for seafarers in both active service and retirement – from securing grants and arranging rehousing to providing personal and practical assistance.
His leadership in establishing the new Merchant Navy memorial plaque on the Govan–Partick bridge in Glasgow – commemorating the 55,000 Merchant Navy personnel lost during the Second World War – was also highlighted as evidence of his 'deep commitment to remembrance and community'.
Responding to the award, Mr Lindsay said: 'I would like to thank those who voted for me. Also, my team members whose collaboration and support have made this journey not only successful but enjoyable. This award is testament to our collective hard work and dedication to supporting seafarers nation-wide. I am truly humbled by this award and will continue to strive in everything I do. Once again, thank you for this incredible recognition.'
Mr Lindsay was one of six frontline workers, leaders and volunteers recognised across the maritime welfare sector and presented with their awards by HRH The Princess Royal, Patron of the MNWB, at Trinity House in London on 18 February 2026.
Awards covered five categories – innovation, collaboration, lifelong commitment, frontline welfare delivery and voluntary service – reflecting the breadth of support provided across the maritime welfare network.
Nautilus head of professional and technical David Appleton and director of welfare and care Andrew Jones attended the ceremony as MNWB trustees. Mr Appleton said: 'We were very pleased to attend this event as trustees and honour the hard work of these worthy recipients.'
