Course Description - Mental Health First Aid 2 day course 
  • Become a Mental Health First Aider (MHFAider®)
  • This globally recognised training teaches people how to identify, understand and help someone who may be experiencing a mental health issue onboard. 
  • You’ll learn to recognise warning signs of mental ill health and develop the skills and confidence to approach and support someone while keeping yourself safe.
  • Delivered across four time-sensitive sessions. Learning takes place through a dynamic mix of presentations, group discussions, and workshop activities. 
  • Open to all, but especially pertinent for HoD's and leadership roles onboard. Some of the skills, confidence and knowledge gained thought out:  
  • Recognise those who may be experiencing poor mental health and provide them with first-level support and early intervention 
  • Encourage a person to identify and access sources of professional help and other supports 
  • Practise active listening and empathy 
  • Have a conversation with improved mental health literacy around language and stigma 
  • Discuss the role in depth, including boundaries and confidentiality 
  • Practise self-care
