CHIRP
The Confidential Hazardous Incident Reporting Programme (CHIRP) is due for review this autumn.
CHIRP promotes maritime safety by following up reports of hazardous incidents. The programme is sponsored by the UK Department for Transport but is governed by an independent Board of Trustees, and is therefore subject to an independent periodic review.
As part of this review, comments from members of the maritime community are being sought. If you wish to give your views, visit www.chirp.co.uk or email confidential@chirp.co.uk.
CHIRP reports are treated with strict confidence and the identity of the reporter is never disclosed. If the reporter agrees, selected reports (dis-identified) are published in the quarterly newsletter, CHIRP Maritime Feedback, which is distributed in the Telegraph and can also be accessed via the website, www.chirp.co.uk.
The reports come from professional mariners, leisure sailors, fishermen and members of the public, and cover a wide spectrum of topics. CHIRP also receives advice from the CHIRP Maritime Advisory Board which has senior representatives from a range of organisations, including Nautilus.
