Safety

INTRODUCTION
Despite advances in ship design and technology, working at sea remains one of the most dangerous professions. Non-compliance with safety laws can lead to catastrophic events or lack of protection/compensation.

Especially in countries with more developed maritime legislation, ships can be detained due to a variety of safety reasons - rat infestation, hygiene, training, crew shortages and more.

REASON FOR CAMPAIGN
Across the globe, ships are regularly detained due to their failure to comply with safety regulations. There are still frequent reports of seafarer deaths, injuries and vessels that are classified as unsafe.

ACTION
Nautilus International regularly attends conventions regarding health and safety and the Union continues to campaign for improvements to protect the lives of its members and seafarers.

Do you think the US courts are right to rule that warrants are not required for the inspection of crews' cabins on visiting ships?
